The Development Team

Kristina Love, Graeme Baker and Marie Quinn have each researched and taught in the area of literacy education over a number of decades. All have been teachers and educational consultants in a wide variety of contexts, including the international context, and know the needs of teachers and student teachers. Their expertise in designing and delivering professional development to teachers, and in designing courses for intending teachers, underpins the design of the DVD.

Dr Kristina Love

Kristina is a former secondary English teacher with extensive experience in teacher education, professional development and producing materials for students and teachers. She has a Ph.D in classroom discourse analysis. She is interested in all aspects of language and literacy and the roles these play in learning.

Mr Graeme Baker

Graeme worked extensively in education in Victoria, Tasmania and the ACT before joining the Victorian Catholic sector as a curriculum and literacy consultant. During this period he worked with Rosemary McLoughlin in the development of the professional development program, Writing in the Subject Areas (WISA) (1994), which was funded by the Commonwealth Literacy and Learning Program, and published jointly by the Victorian Directorate of Education and the Catholic Education Office.

After his secondment to the Faculty of Education, Graeme was not only involved in teaching but also continued his role as a language and literacy consultant. Graeme was one of the developers of the CD-ROM Building Understandings in Literacy and Teaching (BUILT) (2001). This CD-ROM, now in its third edition (2005), includes text, students’ work and video clips of teachers that illustrate aspects of literacy learning and teaching in primary and secondary classrooms.

Ms Marie Quinn

Marie Quinn worked at The University of Melbourne from 2002 - 2006, lecturing in the primary and secondary teacher education programs in the area of Literacy. She has taught in primary and secondary schools in Australia and overseas. She is currently working with the Ministry of Education and Culture in East Timor in a UNICEF-funded teacher education development project.
